Kluczewo field site

The site where field experiments are conducted is located in NW part of Poland, close to the German border. Miedwie, a large lake serving as recreational area and as an important drinking water supply source, is located in the vicinity of the site.During the last century, the site harbored an important military facility initially occupied by German and later by Russian troops, and an extensive contamination of the underground – mainly by hydrocarbons – took place. Since 1994 about 1,800 m³ of petroleum products have been recovered from the groundwater zone in the airport area. The recovery of hydrocarbons has been discontinued, and several barriers have been established to protect contamination of the Miedwie lake.
